Event at Cream City Tattoo
Cream City Tattoo Gallery is excited to present an artist talk and reception with Nicholas Harper.
December 1
7:00-9:00 PM
Join Cream City Tattoo for a chance to get to know one of Minnesota's fine artists, Nicholas Harper. In conjunction with Nicholas's art in our gallery, a discussion and slideshow will be presented with an opportunity to ask questions of the artist. This is a great opportunity for creatives to see and speak to a professional working artist and gallery owner.
Nicholas Harper is an Atelier trained, award-winning artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Harper refers to his personal artistic style as magical realism and is heavily influenced by Russian and Orthodox Iconography as well as literature and philosophy.
Perhaps most well known for his portraits of women with long necks, Harper attempts to convey his personal symbology in which the compositions relate to the inner struggle within each of us, between our spiritual potential and our worldly natures. Ultimately, Harper hopes to use his images as a mirror in which the viewer might glimpse at his or her own divinity.
I
n 1999 Harper set out to open an art gallery, The Rogue Buddha, to facilitate a cross-disciplinary exhibition program that combined two and three-dimensional exhibits with dance, theater, film, music and the literary arts.
Over the past 18 years, while continuing to own and operate the Rogue Buddha Gallery, Harper continues to expand upon his personal artistic repertoire. Harper has exhibited throughout the country and is collected internationally in both private and public collections. He has appeared in numerous publications, including CNN, where he was named as an artist to watch.
