CORY NEEDS WHEELS, Wheelchair fundraiser for Cory Johnson!
Start: July 28, 2012, 6 p.m.
End: July 29, 2012, 2 a.m.
Event at Desire Tattoo Studio
So here’s the official low down:
The ladies of Desire Tattoo are doing a fundraising event for our dear friend Cory Johnson. Some of you regulars will know him as “the office furniture” due to his regular lunch break visits to the studio with his tow truck.
The story goes like this:
Cory’s back hurt him like most hard working men but this pain got worse to the point of affecting his walk. As we know Cory has always had swagger, but this was different. It got to the point where he could no longer push the clutch in on his tow truck.
Insert doctor visit here <<
They got booked in for an MRI ASAP, and just by chance and the fact that the MRI tech had her awesome pants on that day (and the client after him cancelled so she had extra time) she did his whole back instead of just the area she was required to do. Had it not been for this random act of awesome…they wouldn’t have found it so quickly.
He had a three inch benign tumor in his spinal cord. He was told basically that if he didn’t get surgery soon he would end up paraplegic. If he got the surgery there was a 50% chance of becoming paraplegic that way as well and 50% chance of walking again. He chose the 50% chance of walking again option. Cory and his family started down the road to getting his surgery booked and everything put in order at home for his return. That was until one Sunday after a regular work week (in a substitute automatic tow truck ) he tried to get out of bed and realized he couldn’t. He was rushed to Vancouver and underwent surgery two days later.
Fast forward 9 weeks, to now<<
Cory currently resides at GF Strong in Vancouver, and has been steadily working his butt off in physiotherapy every day since the doctors ok’d him to do so. He has a bit of feeling back and can wiggle his toes as well as tilt his feet up and down ever so slightly… Great news of course, but there is still a long road to full recovery ahead, and this is where I get to my point;
CORY NEEDS SOME WHEELS!!
While medical covers minimal costs it doesn’t cover much when you need a specialty wheelchair. This is just one of the many costs that are about to bombard this little family. He is getting close to being released to continue with his therapy at home here in Nanaimo, but the home needs to be modified to fit new needs. So to help our dear friends we are holding a fundraising event!
*The main event will be held Saturday July 28th from 11 am to 7pm, Cara and Des will be doing $50 donation tattoos all day long with proceeds going to Cory’s wheelchair fund, and will be first come first serve. We will also be starting the event as of today july 3rd, which means you can call the shop to get booked in for your $50 charity tattoo and we’ll fit you in anywhere we have an available appointment. And if that wasn’t making it easy for you to come by and donate to a good cause, On top of all this, Brittany; my apprentice, will be doing small tattoos for free all month long for practice even though she doesn’t really need it. We are asking anyone who wants to get tattooed by Brittany to donate $20 or anything you can afford to Cory’s wheelchair fund. We have TONS of designs available to choose from which can be seen in store, we can’t post everything online but we may be inclined to give you some sneak peeks if enough people share this event with friends!!! You also do not need to get a tattoo to donate, you are welcome to stop by during business hours and donate as much you like.
Rules:
Because this is a charity event we cannot do custom designs for you July 28th due to the fact that if we take time away from tattooing by having to draw something from scratch, less people will be able to get tattooed and that means less donations to the cause.
* If you book in before the 28th we *may be able to do something a bit more custom* if *we have time to draw it.
* You must be 18+ to get tattooed.
*Cash only.
