Details of why Sadie Mae needs our help...
"I have cancer. There – I’ve said it.
It has been a whirlwind 5 days. I made mom take me to Steamboat Veterinary Hospital last Tuesday to have 7 unattractive lumps removed. Not because I am vain, mind you, but because everyone is used to me being beautiful and I hate to disappoint. Doctor Smith, my surgeon sent out the lumps to be tested just to be sure they were not anything bad. Surgery went well but later the sites began bleeding heavily and they could not get them to stop. So Doctor Smith drove me herself to the Olympia Veterinary Specialists Emergency folks. They worked hard to get the bleeding under control, gave me medications and a blood transfusion. They are a bit skimpy with the cookies but otherwise really wonderful people. Meanwhile the biopsies came back and 6 of them had cancer. The other lump was just the spot where I always bump my head when I crawl under mom’s desk. I have Hemangiosarcoma. That is very dark news but the bright spot is it has not affected my insides at this time. That type is why the wounds bled so much and why I have been so tired lately.
So….mom and I met with the oncologist, Doctor Parshley, Friday. What a positive and smart lady – though also skimpy with cookies. We have started on a treatment plan with lots of medications. Since I only take pills in spray cheese, mom better stock up. I FINALLY got to come home this afternoon since I am pretty stable and will be calmer and happier here. I need to relax so I do not set off any bleeding again. I should get the whole couch to myself, right? I’ll keep you posted as we learn more, but in the meantime, please keep mom in your thoughts – she’s worrying about her perfect little angel, how to manage without a service dog, and paying my bills."
