What You Fear Will Come Upon You // Opening Reception

Philadelphia, PA – Central Tattoo Studio is pleased to announce the opening of Dylan Garrett Smith’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, What You Fear Will Come Upon You. The exhibition opens on February 5th and runs through March 27th in the first floor gallery space located at 171 W. Girard. An opening reception will take place on Friday, February 5th from 6-10pm.

In his newest body of work, What You Fear Will Come Upon You, Smith delves deep into the heart of humanity’s deepest fear; the facing of one’s own mortality. By combining concepts of occultism, ecology and memento mori into his work, Smith challenges the viewer to reflect on their own existence. He asks the question, “as we lay dying, will we be satisfied with our lives?”

The work showcased in this exhibition has a stillness that can only be attributed to the simplicity of his materials and the delicate handling of his mediums. Smith applies white ash, chalk-lead and ink to black cotton rag paper to create his macabre imagery. The eerie stillness conveyed in this body of work allows the viewer a moment of visual serenity and a chance to reflect on Smith’s message.

Dylan Garrett Smith earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, NY. He currently lives and creates in the Lehigh Valley.
